You don’t even have to pick up the phone anymore to begin planning a date. Giphy

What’s changed?

There are a lot of changes that have happened in the online dating world in the last decade. Online dating has actually become easier than ever, so you don’t have to worry about messing up in person because you can find someone better online. Women can be more discriminating online than they would ever be face to face, meaning you can filter through the endless numbers of potential men all at once to find someone who suits your style and emotional needs, and you don’t have to worry about cheesy pick-up lines or jokes that make you look like a desperate gold-digger.

According to dating app Badoo's 20th anniversary research, you're more likely to have a good first date if you're a woman than if you're a man. Women's reasons for swiping right in their dating apps include more than 20% are interested in chatting, while men have more in common with their date's appearance (29% are interested in finding a sex partner) and the price (22% are excited at the thought of purchasing a date). So, if you’re a woman, the first date is essentially your job—you need to plan your outfit, do your makeup, and research the day before and then do all of this again when you meet him in person.

What's even better? Online dating has made the entire dating experience so much easier. Your busy life can often prevent you from having the time to get ready for a first date, but you can simply spend a few minutes before you leave the house at least planning what to wear and what to do on the day (or evening) of your date, and see whether or not you have everything together and can actually do it all in one shot. Someone to connect with

The idea of online dating has also changed over the years. More than half of U.S. millennials believe that meeting someone of the opposite sex in person is more effective than online dating (hmmm, maybe that explains the no. 1 reason of why people don't meet people in real life—it's too hard), and they agree that dating online is only for the “dorky, weirdos, losers, and awkward people.”
