Working with Images

Photoshop is the best image-manipulation program out there. It's fast, powerful, and rock-solid. What's more, Photoshop allows you to manipulate images in a very structured way.

I can't stress enough that Photoshop is a very powerful tool and one that can do a lot of amazing things to images. In the following sections I describe how to handle four main situations:

Using the Add Layer dialog box to add an image to a photo

Displaying and arranging layers and their elements in an image file

Removing unwanted objects from a photo

Slicing and dicing images into smaller pieces

Adding an Image to a Photo

Whenever you've worked in Photoshop in the past, you've probably created images in the process of making adjustments to an image. In other words, you've used the image editor to fix something, and then you've gone on to create another image that includes a new version of the image you've just fixed.

You can take this process to a new level by using the Add Layer dialog box — and this task is so easy you can probably do it on your first try. All you have to do is select the image that you want to use as a base layer for the image you're creating (with an image you've already created if you're creating a new image). Then click OK to create a new layer in the active image. (You can get an image that works perfectly for adding an image to a photo by starting with a stock image.)

In the following steps, I show you how to add a new layer in a photo to create the perfect image to add to a scrapbook page or to display in an e-mail.

1. Open a photo that you want to edit.

2. Open the image that you want to add as a new layer.

3. Click the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel or the menu and select Layer from the menu that appears. This option opens the New Layer dialog box, as shown in Figure 9-1.

Import Images Into Photoshop Elements

If you’re new to Photoshop Elements, or you’re just getting started with it, you’ll find that the import function is the key to having a productive workflow.



Elements can import a wide variety of file types, including Photoshop files, Photoshop actions, and PDF files. You can also import using a variety of external drives, including USB, Floppy, and CD-ROM.

If you’re using a Photoshop template (usually comes with the same design as the brochure you’re editing), you can just open the PSD files in Elements and start editing right away. It’s that simple.

The Healing Brush tool works in a similar way, but is used for bringing back pixels that have been deleted from an image, due to accidental removal or as part of a repair.

The Pen tool allows you to draw shapes on an image. Rectangles, ovals, and freehand forms can all be created with the Pen tool. You can use it as an alternative to painting tools for creating vector shapes that can then be scaled and moved without affecting the image itself.

The Quick Selection tool is available in both the standard toolbar and in the Options Bar along with the Brush and Pen tools. The Quick Selection tool is very similar to the Brush tool in that you can use it to paint on an image and select a contiguous section for that image. The difference is that Quick Selection allows you to select a larger area, saving your time and efforts. This tool is useful in selecting text or images and removing them quickly, without having to use the Select tool.

The Eraser tool is usually found in the tools palette in the upper-right corner of your screen. This tool can be used for removing certain types of objects such as text, photographs, or extra layers created in Photoshop. It also can be used to remove unwanted elements from an image, such as hair, tape, or stains.

The Magic Wand tool is used for selecting objects on an image. The Magic Wand tool is most commonly used for selecting a single object on an image, such as a typeface or a photograph. The tool should be used in conjunction with the selection border color selected in the Options Bar (under Fill or Stroke), or manually by clicking the border of the selection.

The Marquee tool is a rectangle with a stroke around the outside of the rectangle. Clicking anywhere inside of the rectangle will select the entire object. Clicking out of the rectangle will select the nearest object to the selection border.

The Type tool is made up of several typefaces that can be applied to an image. Clicking anywhere on the image will allow you to apply one of the selected fonts to the image. The image will be tinted in a similar manner to the selected font. If there is no font selected, the Type tool will apply the original color of

A rapid-action plan to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 has been launched by local residents.

The largest gathering of community leaders in the region took place on Monday, May 28, at St. Augustine College in High Street, to announce a new rapid action plan to get people doing the three Rs in public – “Remove, Refuse and Report”.

The action plan will include the development of a draft code of conduct for all those in the community who wish to engage in social distancing but have not yet made an attempt to avoid contact with others. The draft code includes the undertaking not to harass, intimidate, or cause alarm to others in communities or the public at large.

“This plan will assist the region in limiting the spread of COVID-19 and helping our residents continue to practice good personal hygiene,” said Mayor Tom Gillibrand. “No person will be discriminated against during the COVID-19 outbreak.”

How do I pass the variable to a new page in same activity in android?

I am new to android. I am facing one issue,I have 2 activity in which I have to check the value of the radio button and I have to pass the value to another activity.
If I set the value of the radio button in the main activity and I open the other activity to check the value of radio button, I get the blank and non-filling value.
I need to show the selected radio button in a listview, I need to get the selected radio button's id, so I need to pass this id to the next activity.
But I am getting non-filling value.
